Of the Five Boroughs of New York City,
Brooklyn is the largest.
It's a magnet for immigrants, and at South Brooklyn Community College Prepatory,
it's a magnet for daily fights and cliques of different nationalities. On more than one
occasion, the cops have been called to the ghetto school to drag away violent pupils
who didn't want to learn. The students here are more concerned about when the
next party is than they are about their report cards. Very few students
actually graduate from SBCCP, and even fewer go to college.
But the students are going to need to change to give their school a good name. In
just a few months, a camera crew will be coming to their high school to film a new
reality show called "The REAL Secret Life of the American Teenager." The students
have been trying to help clean up the school, but all that ends up happening is more
fights than usual. Students are being suspended and even expelled left and right.
The staff isn't convinced that the school will be ready by the time the camera crew arrives.
They want to give this school in the projects a good name, but right now it's looking almost
impossible. What the staff wants to know is if YOU will be either a huge help or whether
you'll be sent home.
