Everyone knows about the Battle of Hogwarts and the way things turned out. Voldemort fell at the hands of the teenaged wizard he had failed to kill as a small child, with perhaps the simplest of spells. But Voldemort was not the only one to lose his life during that final war. Bellatrix Lestrange also fell, as did Dobby, Colin Creevey, Peter Pettigrew, Ted Tonks, Mr. Thomas and a large number of others, either during the same time or before it had all come to a close.
Harry and Ginny attempted to pick up the pieces of their relationship where they had left it a year before, but the things that they had both seen caused the two to drift apart, as did Ron and Hermione. There wasn't the same kind of feeling, especially after everything they had endured together over the course of the past several years. They had each changed too much for things to work harmoniously, though they held onto the firm friendships they had all shared when they had been younger.
Years later, each has found someone who compliments their other half, raising families that are now beginning their own journeys to Hogwarts, causing mischief, falling in love and hearing their own rumours. They all know about what happened before, having heard the stories as they grew up about how the world was before, during and after Voldemort's reign of terror. As small children, they used to pretend that they could be the hero, taking turns being the evil Lord Voldemort so they they could save the world. It was fun then.
Not so much now.
Things are slowly becoming uneasy in the wizarding world, who has faced numerous exposure attempts recently. The Ministry doesn't know what to do besides stop them when they happened, because everything seems to be operating out of a single, un-named group that they cannot track. Aurors are on high alert, as is Hogwarts itself. But everything that can possibly be withheld is being hidden from the students, not wanting them to panic, or perhaps encourage this behaviour.
So while this group is continuing to cause trouble, there have been a few muggles who have missed having their memories erased. Should they speak, the entire wizarding world will be exposed to them, and who knows what will happen then.
