It was now quarter to seven. Lukas was Bayne’s study buddy in a word. They had agreed to meet in the Library at seven to go through their studies, do their homework and work on their Muggle Studies project. It was a lot of effort on Bayne’s part but it was the only night both of them had free. Bayne would much prefer to be anywhere but in the Library, the place gave him the wiggins but where else was better to study from? Afterall, they basically had everything they needed all in one place right?
He pushed open the library doors and walked through it. He’d changed from his robes wearing a normal t-shirt, navy blue and a pair of faded baggy jeans, a pair of trainers and a black jacket. Nothing fancy or anything, just casual. He smiled to the librarian and went to the usual table at the back, glad to find it free, annoyed slightly that Luke wasn’t here yet but he wasn’t about to wait either. Sighing, he sat down, pulled out numerous books and parchment and began to work on his Defensive Spell’s essay.
Finally, Luke arrived. He was late but Bayne knew him well enough to know time keeping wasn’t exactly his forte. Bayne looked up at Luke, giving him a smile before he turned his attention back to his work. ”I should really buy you a singing watch that yells the time at you.” He smirked slightly as his eyes scanned the book and his hand wrote down the words he saw there. Bayne always felt more than a little self conscious around Luke and sometimes, had trouble talking. Occasionally he could speak well enough but he could never say anything of consequence, relevance or importance. He could crack jokes and make stupid comments, but he could never ever say anything… well useful.

Lukas had honestly tried to be on time. He'd made a conscious effort to prepare himself for their first study session of the year, but then he'd gotten distracted by a cute Slytherin outside. It was hardly his fault that he'd had to jump into the lake to impress him! What was wrong with boys these days? It wasn't enough to saunter up to them and introduce yourself, you had to make a whole fuss out of it just to get someone to notice you. It was really unfair, and now Bayne was teasing him about not being on time. The blonde pouted, sitting down next to his somewhat friend.
"You should. No one ever buys me anything" He ran fingers through his still damp hair, looking at the parchment in front of them. Did they have to do this? Really? Why was Hogwarts all about studying and graduating and getting good grades? There were other houses than Ravenclaw after all! He really thought that partying 101 ought to be a class, and he was damn sure he'd get a grade better than outstanding for that one.
Taking a deep breath, he finally grabbed his own books and spread them over the table, leaning an elbow on the wood and turning his upper half towards the other Gryffindor. "And on that note. Hey Bayne, how was your summer."

Flicking over his wrist he undid his own watch. It was a simple black leather strap, silver back and hands with little black roman numerals. Bayne had thousands of watches so it meant nothing to him as he threw it across the table at the blonde boy. ”Now you have no excuse.” He didn’t take his eyes off his parchment. Partly because if he saw the adorable look on Luke’s face he’d forget that he’d waited fifteen minutes for him and forget that he was slightly annoyed too. It was rude to make people wait, and Bayne looked forward to these study sessions more than he should… and it had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual studying part of it.
”My summer?” Bayne looked at him for the first time since he’d arrived. Looking back at the books he tapped it. ”We’re not here to talk about my summer.” He tried to ignore the fact the blonde was staring at him, obviously still waiting for an answer. Bayne sighed and continued writing as he spoke. He couldn’t tell him exactly how his summer was, it would come too close of telling him that he lived in a manor. ”We went to the Caribbean. There I told you, can we work now?” He tried to put as much frustration into his voice but he failed. He was smiling and the amusement seeped into his voice. Sometimes, Bayne just couldn’t help smiling around Luke, Bayne found it immensely annoying.
”Defensive Spells Luke.” He said after a minute. ”It’ll help if you actually open your book.” Bayne continued writing, he was already ahead of Luke and so he looked at the shelves behind him, stretching slightly so he could grab the book on counter curses. He looked at Luke, who was still looking at him expectantly, surely he wasn’t waiting for a descriptive run down of his summer? ”What now?”

What now? Lukas shook his head, looking down at his book and obediently pushing it open at the right page. "Nothing" So. Bayne. Well. Yeah. Interesting. Lukas had never considered that the Gryffindor might actually not like him. In fact, he hadn't given the brunette a whole lot of thought during their years of knowing each other. It was Bryn who hung out with him, Bryn who had set up this little studying session of theirs. He'd figured that they got along alright, but maybe he was mistaken. Huh.
His eyes flicked to the page, then back to the boy sat next to him. No way. There was no way that the boy couldn't like him. He was Lukas Clarke. Everybody liked him. Well, mostly everybody, except for some odd Slytherin girl that seemed to make it her mission to make his life miserable. But that wasn't the point. He was well liked, and Bayne ought not to be the exception to the rule. If he were, it was Luke's mission to fix it.
"Are you coming to the party tonight? Free drinks for every pretty guy" The blonde gave him the patented award-winning smile, hoping that it would soften the look in the eyes of his study partner.

Oh god. If Bayne only knew what Luke was thinking. It wasn’t that Bayne didn’t like Luke, quite the opposite in face. He liked him too much than was even necessary and the blonde boy didn’t have a clue! It killed him to notice the attraction Luke held for Bryn and Bryn didn’t have a clue. He knew how Luke felt on that scale. Someone liking you but them not even looking at you twice. It was why Bayne was distancing himself, he didn’t want to give Luke any ammunition. Bayne had been surprised when Bryn told Bayne that he was setting up a study session for the two of them. You never know, you two might get to know each other a bit better. That was what Bryn had said and Bayne felt, in the way of getting to know, they werent making any progress at all.
”You are determined to talk about anything other than what we are actually supposed to be doing, arent you?” His frustration was showing now, his brows knitted. He didn’t take his eyes from the book at all. ”For every pretty guy?” His voice was incredulous. He looked at Luke, an accusing look in his eyes. Standing up, he shut his book with a rather loud thud. ”Sorry I’m not interested in being a number in some guys games.” He walked behind Luke to grab another book, anything to keep himself from thinking too much. He had no desire to be just another one of Luke’s guys. Someone he had fun with, discarded and then told all his friends about. No thank you. As for the party, ”I don’t know. Maybe.” He took a book, slammed it down and flicked it open before beginning to scribble back down on the parchment rather fast. There were many things he’d wanted to say to Luke but was forcing himself not to.

Lukas had no idea where those comments were coming from, but they hurt. It wasn't as if he fooled around with everyone, he was no Danny Bailey. He just..enjoyed being single and sixteen. Was that so bad? Was that a reason for Bayne Williams to hate him? As if the boy wasn't as much of a flirt as he was! The blonde bristled, slamming his book shut and getting to his feet without knowing what he was going to do or say. He wasn't used to people being this cruel towards him, especially without reason.
"Dude, harsh" He sat back down, frowning at his parchment and refusing to look at the other. Who did he think he was?! He had no right to be an asshole towards him, and if he thought that studying together was going to work like this, well he was severely mistaken. "I was just trying to get to know you, but I think I've got enough information, thanks." His voice was sharp as he pushed his chair away from Bayne, opening his book and attempting to read up on those defensive spells. God, if only he could read about hexes and jinxes right now! He was bloody tempted to try them out on his so-called study partner.
Stupid fucking Bryn and his damn ideas. Why had he allowed him to set up a study date again? Oh right, because he liked the boy more than he should. "Defensive spells then. Show me your wisdom." It was said calmly, but with an underlying tone of anger. Lukas had his walls up now and it'd be hard getting them back down.

Bayne knew he was being unfair but he couldnt help it. Just the thought of being someone’s number rubbed him up the wrong way. But the thought of being Luke’s number… one of many… well that was almost unbearable. Bayne looked around as he heard the book slam and found himself almost face to face with Luke. This was unexpected and he found himself blushing involuntarily. What was Bryn thinking, the two of them clashed too much… like bright red and an even brighter green. He couldn’t stand it. Bayne knew everyone liked Luke, he wasn’t the exception to the rule either, he just wasn’t going to make it easy for him. Luke would never know the hold he had over Bayne. Bryn knew, which was why he set these things up. Bayne would have to tell Bryn he was wasting his time.
”It wasn’t meant to be harsh.” Bayne explained, ”I just say things as I see them and yeah, okay. Sometimes I could say things nicer but I don’t. I’m blunt and sometimes harsh, its just the way I am.” So deal with it. Bayne sat back down, the two of them were silent for a minute until Luke spoke up again. The words cut Bayne deep, he even flinched. Yet he didn’t look at Luke, instead he simply shrugged as though it didn’t matter. ”Alright then.” His voice was low and a little sad, his eyes scanned the book. ”We wont do this anymore, its obviously not working so why put ourselves through a possible torturous situation.” He didn’t miss the look on Luke’s face, the thought of trying hexes out on Bayne was overpowering. Yeah well, Bayne would deal.
Bayne ignored Luke’s obvious sarcasm and anger and continued to work in silence. It was fortunate they were the only ones in here. Nobody could over hear their little dispute. Or argument depending on whatever way they saw it. Bayne was able to keep calm. It was rare you ever saw him really lose his temper.

"Fine. If we're not going to continue, then why bother pretending now" As if he was really going to spend an evening in the library with a dickhead like Bayne, who had just basically called him a slut. Yeah, that was definitely his idea of a good time. Lukas closed his book, glaring up at the other Gryffindor. "For the record. A: I don't appreciate being called a whore and B: I don't need a fucking study partner to begin with. So don't go and pretend that you're doing me a favor, because I'm capable of getting passing grades just fine without your help, Mr. High and Mighty."
He got to his feet again, grabbing his books and stuffing them into his back pack. He'd no doubt hear from Bryn about this, but he honestly couldn't care right now. Bayne thought he was a hussy and he wasn't sugar coating it. Lukas would admit to being a free agent, but he didn't appreciate being looked down upon by someone who screwed around just as much as he did. "Next time you accuse someone of sleeping around, you might take a good look in the mirror first, jackass" Flipping him off, he threw his bag onto his shoulder and walked away.

Bayne looked up at Luke, this hadnt gone to plan at all. Bayne hadnt wanted to offend Luke at all and felt disgusted in himself. He was, however, far too proud to say he was sorry and besides. He couldn’t change. He was blunt to the point of brutality it was just how he was. He’d been that way all his life. He couldn’t change now. His eyes flicked back down to the book, yet he wasn’t reading it, he looked a little ashamed of himself to be honest. ”…alright.” He didn’t want to argue any more, Bayne, though blunt and honest, didn’t like arguing with anyone, despite how some people could annoy him. ”For the record… I wasn’t calling you a whore.” He snipped back. He wasn’t. He simply pointed out a fact Luke liked to play games with guys and Bayne wasn’t interested in being taken for a fool.
”That was below the belt!” Bayne said sharply, standing up. ”I never said or even meant that you slept around and for your information. Yeah I flirt. I don’t however sleep around.” Truth be told, Bayne had never slept with anyone in his life. He was still pure and innocent in that sense. He watched Luke stalk off obviously pissed off. That went rather well. He thought sarcastically to himself. Though, deciding not to pay it any mind and speak to Bryn about it later, change their arrangement. Bayne didn’t think he would like to keep on arguing with Luke… going back to admiring him from a distance seemed like a very good idea.
