They were staring at each other a lot during those minutes, until Danny grabbed the piece of paper again, taking his quill and writing down a short note. He had to do this, before he chickened out, which was something not many people expected of him. They figured, Danny Bailey, he was somewhat of a slut, there was no way he could ever feel inferior or insecure about himself. He was the boy who just went up to whoever he wanted, and in most case, got them.
Hey, I was wondering...Do you want to go out sometime? With me?
He pushed the note in the direction of the Ravenclaw, before turning back to the Potion. He read through the next couple of notes, checked to see if the Potion had the right color, really only so he wouldn't have to look at him while he read and replied to the note. It wasn't really like Danny to ask people out. He usually went and found someone, spent some time with him, and kissed them. But Oliver wouldn't know that. He probably didn't even know his reputation, or so the blonde hoped.

Those words made his heart stop for a second. Oliver was confused, not only by the fact that Danny would be interested in him like that, but also because some part of his mind was telling him to just say yes, and he hated that. Biting hard on the inside of his cheek and frowning at his own thoughts, he scribbled down what he'd told himself millions of times before.
I'm not gay.
After writing this, he felt quite bad. What if that wasn't what the blonde had meant? If he just wanted to go out as friends, then Oliver had just made himself look like a true idiot. Then again, the Ravenclaw really doubted he was the type of person this man would be friends with - He'd seen his friends, and they were pretty different to him. As far as he could work out, the only logical conclusion was the one he'd come to. Danny didn't have a type when it came to love - or, more appropriately, quick flings. With a wary look in the boy's direction, he added:
I can't think of any other reason why someone like you'd ask me anywhere...

Not gay huh? For a moment, Danny just stared at that piece of the note, jotted down in harsh words. He could hardly believe he'd misjudged him like that - the boy had been looking at him quite a lot during the past hour. And yeah, okay, he was good looking, but he wasn't that interesting, and most people only gave him the occasional glance. They didn't give him their full on attention for minutes on end.
Then he went on to read the second part, and his jaw tightened. Someone like him, huh? He almost nearly scoffed but instead threw in another ingredient, ignoring how the Potion seemed to sparkle as he gave the spoon a half hearted clockwise stir.
Someone like me? So..I can't ask anyone out because I'm a slut and all I want is someone to get laid?
The problem was, it was hitting too close to home. Danny knew that he wasn't all that innocent, and when he really liked someone, it was even harder to ignore. Partially because he was terrified of commitment and even trying, and partially because his reputation preceeded him.
Trust me, sugar, if I wanted to get my rocks off I sure as hell wouldn't go for some prude in-the-closet freak like you
His hand was shaking as he pushed the note towards his classmate, ignoring the burn in his throat that said he'd gone too far. Instead, the Hufflepuff focused back on the Potion, haphazardly throwing in another ingredient and ignoring how the concoction began to bubble, almost spilling over the floor. Stupid fucking Oliver Pace.

Danny's sudden anger made Oliver give him an alarmed look. What had he said? He hadn't meant to anger the blonde, and this seemed like quite an over-reaction to him. In his mind, he went over his own words a few times, trying to figure out how the boy could have taken them. He came to the conclusion that he'd taken it the total wrong way, and even though the reaction still confused him - if you were going to sleep around, you had to expect comments like that, right? - he decided it was probably a good idea to apologise.
Picking up his pen, the Ravenclaw was ready to ask the man for forgiveness when the other's note was shoved under his nose. As his eyes flicked over it, his grip on the writing apparatus tightened. Flicking his hair out of his eyes, Oliver fixed the blonde with a look. Obviously, his judge of character wasn't as good as it used to be. Danny had seemed so nice, but nice people didn't say bastardish things like that. There were a million things going through his head that he could have said, including the fact that if he kept acting like that, their potion was going to explode all over both of them. But hey, if he wanted to be such a cock about it... Oliver could be one too. Pursing his lips, he slammed the pen down on the table and turned his head away from the blonde, leaning back in his chair as he did so. He crossed his arms and let Danny carry on with mutilating their potion.
Needless to say, after a bit more rough treatment on the hufflepuff's behalf, the potion decided it wasn't taking any more of his rubbish and exploded, splattering it's sticky purple liquid all over the room. The potions teacher was less than pleased, and gave them both detention in the dungeons on saturday afternoon, and Oliver Pace made up his mind on his classmate. Daniel Bailey was a complete ass.
